Alphabetical List of Hikes

Alaska Lake
A small lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, northeast of Snoqualmie Pass. It sits next to the Pacific Crest trail, except its about 1000 feet below it. It can be accessed through Gold Creek valley.

Ancient Lake
A series of small, water filled potholes created by the same ancient, catastrophic floods from ancient Missoula Lake that created the coulees. It is located in the Potholes Coulee southwest of Quincy in eastern Washington.

Annette Lake
A small mountain lake, nestled between Silver Peak and Humpback Mountain. It's located southwest of Snoqualmie Pass and can be accessed off exit 47 off I-90.

Beacon Ridge
The southernmost part of Kachess Ridge, east of the southern end of Kachess Lake. Its called Beacon Ridge because it was once the site of an aircraft beacon, but all that remains today is the metal framework it sat on.

Beezley Hills Nature Preserve
A small patch of eastern Washington scabland, run by The Nature Conservancy, a few miles northeast of Quincy, Washington. For most of the year it is not much to look at, but in mid-spring its alive with color as the wilflowers are blooming.

Black Canyon
A desert canyon hike in the foothills southeast of Ellensburg, Washington, located in the LT Murray Wildlife Area. Its in the transition zone between the scablands and the pine forests of eastern Washington.

Blythe & Chukar Lakes
Two of the many small lakes in the Potholes State Park area. They are just south of O'Sullivan Dam and east of Mar Don Resort. With all the water in this area, rattlesnakes are likely to be around in the warmer months.

Boulder Garden
A loop trail in the Mount Si area near North Bend, Washington. It can be accessed from the Little Si trailhead. It makes a great extension to a hike up Little Si.

Cave Ridge
A small ridge just north of Snoqualmie Pass. It sits at the left edge of the pentagon formed by Guye Peak, Snoqualmie Mountain, Lundin Peak, Red Mountain and Kendall Peak. It gets its name from a cave near the summit of the ridge.

Cedar Butte
A small, 1800' hump between Rattlesnake Lake and Mount Washington, just east of North Bend, Washington. Although small, it does offer some good views into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley and the mountains surrounding it.

Change Creek Loop
A loop hike starting from the Mount Washington trail. It then turns off onto the Great Wall trail, then the Change Creek trail, which circles up around Change Creek Pond before heading back down to the Iron Horse trail, then back to the parking lot.

Change Peak
A 4300' peak east of Mount Washington. It sits next to the Great Wall trail but to get to the summit requires bushwhacking through thick stands of hemlock saplings. The summit offers decent views, through the trees, east and south to Mount Rainier.

Chiwaukum Creek
A swift, fast moving creek at the base of the Chiwaukum Mountains, east of Stevens Pass. It is located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, roughly 10 miles northwest of Leavenworth, Washington.

Cottonwood Lake
A small lake southwest of Hyak on Snoqualmie Pass, near Keechelus Lake. Its actually a short 1/4 mile side hike from Mirror Lake which is alongside the Pacific Crest trail.

Dingford Creek
A fast moving creek at the base of Mount Price north of Snoqualmie Pass. It is fed by a number of small mountain lakes and drains into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River. It can be accessed by FR56 in the Middle Fork valley.

Dirty Harry's Balcony
A small viewpoint overlooking the I-90 corridor about 12 miles east of North Bend. It sits up on a small shelf on a ridge of West Defiance and can be a short side-trip on the way to Dirty Harry's Peak or a shorter hike done by itself.

Dirty Harry's Peak
A 4600' peak at the east end of West Defiance, east of North Bend, Washington. The trail is rough and steep in places but it makes a good conditioning hike and it offers a good view of the ridge across the Granite Lakes.

Domerie Divide
A ridge skirting the west end of the Domerie Creek valley north of Easton, Washington. It spans from the west flank of Easton Ridge around and up to crest the Domerie Ridge. Its a steep trail but offers outstanding views to the south along the way.

Dusty Lake
Another pothole lake in the Potholes Coulee. It is separated from the Ancient Lakes by an arm of the coulee wall.

Easton Ridge
A long, 4400' ridge along I-90 just north of Easton, Washington. It is a steep hike to get up to but once you crest the ridge its a fairly easy walk. It offers outstanding views south and north to the Stuart Range. In spring and early summer there is a profusion of wildflowers.

Frenchman Coulee
A small coulee just above the east side of Wanapum Lake on the Columbia River near Vantage, Washington. The old Vantage Highway runs along the south side of the coulee. There is a small waterfall at the east end, the outflow from Hilton Lake above.

Gem Lake
A small mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, situated on a ridge between Mount Roosevelt and Wright Mountain several miles northwest of Snoqualmie Pass. To reach it, you have to hike around to the northwest end of Snow Lake.

Gold Creek
A creek located on Snoqualmie Pass, fed by high lakes on Rampart Ridge to the east and lakes near Chikamin Ridge to the north and draining into Keechelus Lake on the pass. Two of those lakes can be accessed through this creek valley.

Granite Lakes
A pair of lakes just outside of the western edge of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. They are nestled between West Defiance and Webb Mountain. Granite Creek, the outflow from these lakes, drains into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River.

Granite Mountain
A 5600' mountain along the I-90 corridor, between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass. It offers such a commanding view that it was the site of a fire lookout - which still stands at the summit but is no longer used.

Great Wall
The ridge between Change Peak and Mount Washington, east of North Bend. It is the headwall of the valley between the two. It can done from either direction and makes a nice wide loop hike.

Green Mtn: Absolute Last Promontory
Green Mountain is a 4800' mountain along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River near North Bend, WA. Absolute Last Promontory is a viewpoint partway up Green Mountain at about 3000'. It offers sweeping views of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie valley and peaks across the valley.

Guye Peak
An impressive looking 5000' butte just off Snoqualmie Pass, situated next to Snoqualmie Mountain. To get to the top probably takes some climbing skills.The trail starts across the road from the Alpental Ski area parking lot.

Hall Point
A small viewpoint just off the Change Creek trail, overlooking the Hall Creek valley down to the I-90 corridor. The first couple of miles are fairly steep, as is the last 1/4 mile, but it makes an interesting hike.

Horse Thief Cave
A small cave located at the north end of Soap Lake near Soap Lake, Washington. Local lore says that Natives would steal horses from the early settlers and hide them in this cave. Its really not much of a hike but its an interesting place to explore.

Humpback Mountain
A 5100' mountain along the I-90 corridor southwest of Snoqualmie Pass. The trail climbs straight up the northwest ridge without switchbacks to level out the 2400' elevation gain in just over 1-1/4 miles. The reward, however, are spectacular, nearly 360° views.

Island Lakes
A group of small lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, located below Bandera and Pratt Mountains. They are comprised of Island Lake - the largest, Rainbow Lake - the nicest and Blazer Lake - which has no trail for access, as far as I know.

Kamikaze Falls
A large - but low volume - waterfall on the flank of Mount Teneriffe just east of North Bend, Washington. It is a 3 tier horsetail falls, on Teneriffe Creek, with a total drop of 414 feet. It has also recently been called Teneriffe Falls.

Kendall Katwalk
An interesting spot on the Pacific Crest trail, northeast of Snoqualmie Pass. It was blasted out of the solid rock, high above Gold Creek valley and was quite controversial at the time. It can be a treacherous place in winter.

Lake Lillian
Another lake of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, northeast of Keechelus Lake and, eventually, draining into it. There are a couple ways to get to it - one a long, rough drive and the other a long, rough hike.

Little Balcony
A small viewpoint below Web Mountain, along I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass. It can be accessed from either the Dirty Harry's trailhead or the Ira Springs trailhead.

Little Bandera Mountain
A 5100' peak on Bandera Mountain, along the I-90 corridor between North Bend, Washington and Snoqualmie Pass. It is accessed from the Ira Spring trailhead.

Little Si
A small 1500' hump near Mount Si, just outside of North Bend, Washington. Its a popular place for climbers as there are sheer rock faces on its flank. It is also popular with local hikers and dog walkers.

Little St Helens
A small 4500' ridge along I-90 between Gardner Mountain and Humpback Mountain near Snoqualmie Pass. It can be accessed from the Hanson Creek trailhead.

Lower Tuscohatchie Lake
A mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, west of Snoqualmie Pass. It can be accessed from several different trails from several different trailheads including the Pratt Lake trailhead.

Mailbox Peak
A 4800' peak rising from the Snoqualmie River valley just east of North Bend, Washington. It is a steep hike, climbing 3600 feet in under 2 miles. It is often used as a conditioning hike by smokejumpers at the nearby Fire Training facility.

Manastash Ridge: Westberg Memorial trail
A trail, leading from the Thorp valley up onto Manastash Ridge, dedicated to Ray Westberg, a local wrestling coach who died prematurely. It is a steep trail but offers outstanding views of the valley and the Stewart mountain range.

Margaret Lake
Another small lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, east of Keechelus Lake. It sits at the base of Mount Margaret near several other small lakes.

Mason Lake
A mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, a short distance off the I-90 corridor, nestled between Bandera Mountain and Mount Defiance. It can be accessed from the Ira Spring trailhead, between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

McClellan Butte
A rocky 5100' prominence just off the I-90 corridor between North Bend, Washington and Snoqualmie Pass. The hike up can be challenging but the last 100 feet of elevation is a Class 3 scramble requiring the use of hands and feet.

Melakwa Lakes
A pair of small mountain lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. They're located about 3 miles northwest of Snoqualmie Pass. They can be reached from two directions - the shortest being from the Denny Creek trailhead.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River: Downstream
A hike from the Middle Fork trailhead heading downstream. The trail goes about 3-1/4 miles down river before turning onto the Pratt River trail.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River: Upstream
A hike from the Middle Fork trailhead heading upstream. The trail runs about 14 miles up river, past the GoldMyer Hot Springs, before connecting to the Dutch Miller Gap trail.

MidMountain
A 4200' peak across Change Creek valley from Change Peak, east of North Bend, Washington. It can be accessed either by the Change Creek trail or the Mount Washington-Great Wall trails. Views from the summit are mostly over the I-90 corridor.

Mirror Lake
A small mountain lake west of Keechelus Lake near Snoqualmie Pass. It sits alongside the Pacific Crest trail and can be accessed from several trailheads.

Moses Coulee
A small coulee, about 17 miles southwest of the much larger - and now water filled - Grand Coulee. Jameson and Grimes Lakes sit at the north end. The hike starts about 2 miles south of Jameson Lake.

Mount Baldy
A 5000' mountain north of Easton, Washington and Easton Ridge. Its situated just west of Domerie Peak and is part of the same ridge system. There are a couple of ways to access it but the most direct is from the Kachess Ridge trailhead near Kachess Lake.

Mount Catherine
A 5000' mountain just west of Keechelus Lake near Snoqualmie Pass. It sits next to Mount Hyak at the north end of the lake. It offers decent views to the north on the hike up and views south and east at the summit.

Mount Margaret
A 5400' mountain east of Keechelus Lake near Snoqualmie Pass. Its a rough, steep hike to the top but it offers outstanding views to the south over a series of small lakes - including Margaret Lake.

Mount Si
A seemingly large 4100' mountain rising up from the Snoqualmie River valley just outside of North Bend, Washington. Although there is a new, well groomed trail to the summit, I usually take the old trail because there is less traffic. The true summit here is also a Class 3 scramble.

Mount Teneriffe
A 4700' mountain just east of North Bend, Washington. It sits next to Mount Si and is a part of the same complex. It offers outstanding 360° views of the surrounding area. There are 2 routes to the top - one a long, circuitous hike of 6-1/2 miles, the other a rough, steep 4 mile hike.

Mount Washington
A 4400' mountain just east of North Bend, Washington and just north of Chester Morse Lake - part of the Cedar River Watershed. The trail starts off the Iron Horse trail, just outside Olallie State Park. It offers great views north from the summit and south just before the summit.

Mt Washington: Washington Pond
A pond in the valley between Change Peak and Mount Washington. It makes a good destination when time constraints or weather conditions don't allow for a longer hike.

Northrup Canyon: Northrup Lake
A small, water-filled pothole at the end of Northrup Canyon, near Steamboat Rock State Park. Its accessed by hiking through the canyon past the old Northrup Homestead.

Northrup Canyon: Old Wagon Road
A short trail, about a mile long, heading up over the south side of the canyon. At one time it was the main road between Almira and Bridgeport. It is closed from the end of November through March.

Olallie Lake
Another small mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. It can be accessed a few different ways - the most direct from the Talapus Lake trailhead between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

Olallie Lake Viewpoint
A place on the Pratt Lake trail overlooking Olallie Lake. Its usually a popular destination for snowshoers in winter. The view is generally better in winter also as its not as overgrown.

Otter & Big Creek Falls
A short side-trip off the main trail, Otter Falls is an impressive 500' slide falls. Its not a great volume of water but a long slide down a sheer rock face into Lipsy Lake (a glorified puddle). Big Creek Falls is a tiered falls, just down the trail, which teminates at the bridge over the creek.

Pete Lake
A small mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area near Cooper Lake in the Salmon La Sac area. The trail starts at Cooper Lake and runs along Cooper River for most of the way to the lake.

Pratt Lake
Another one of the many, many lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Access can be gained in several ways, the most obvious from the Pratt Lake trailhead, just off I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

Pratt Mountain Saddle
The saddle over the ridge between Pratt Mountain and West Granite Mountain. The ridge separates the Talapus/Olallie Lake basin from the Pratt Lake basin. It is not usually a hike destination in itself but makes a good turnaround point for shorter hikes.

Putrid Pete's Peak or P3
A 5200' peak between Web Mountain and Bandera Mountain southeast of North Bend, Washington. It is a steep, rough trail and can be accessed from the Ira Spring trailhead.

Quartz Creek
A creek running between Quartz Mountain and Rooster Mountain in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River area. Lake Blethen and Rooster Mountain can both be accessed from this trail. It starts at the Snoqualmie Lake trailhead.

Rachel Lake
One of the larger lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, due east of Snoqualmie Pass. It sits on an eastern ledge of Rampart Ridge below the Rampart Lakes. The Rachel Lake trailhead is off FR4930.

Rattlesnake Mountain: East Peak
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. The east peak has communication towers on it but it also offers great views down the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley. It can be accessed from either end but the east end is more direct.

Rattlesnake Mountain: Grand Prospect
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. Grand Prospect is a viewpoint about 4 miles from the west end of the ridge. The trail runs from end to end making a through hike possible.

Rattlesnake Mountain: Grand Prospect

Rattlesnake Mountain: Windy Landing
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. Windy Landing is a viewpoint about 1/4 mile west of the east peak. It gives decent views of Mount Si and the Snoqualmie River valley.

Red Pass
A high country pass between Lundin Peak and Red Mountain and north of Commonwealth Basin. The easiest access point is from the Pacific Crest Trail - Snoqualmie North trailhead, just off Snoqualmie Pass.

Scout Patrol Peak
A 4600' peak several miles southwest of Snoqualmie Pass. There is no real trail to the summit. A couple of old logging roads will get you within a half mile of the crest and from there the rest of the way is a scramble up a scree field to the summit.

Silver Peak
A 5600' peak between Mount Catherine and Abiel Peak west of Keechelus Lake on Snoqualmie Pass. It offers outstanding 360° views. The trail off, the Pacfic Crest trail, is unmaintained and is rough and steep in places.

Snow Lake
One of the larger lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Its a few miles northwest of Snoqualmie Pass. The trailhead is just off the Alpental Ski Resort parking lot, near Snoqualmie Pass.

Source Lake
A small mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Its a short side-trip on the hike to Snow Lake or, especially in winter, a destination in itself.

South Bessemer Mountain
A 5000' mountain between Mount Teneriffe and Quartz Mountain along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River near North Bend. It offers great views of the surrounding area. The trail is a series of old logging roads.

Spider Meadow
A backcountry meadow in the Phelps Creek valley, adjacent to Phelps Ridge. Its located in the Glacier Peak Wilderness area about 35 miles north-northwest of Leavenworth, Washington.

Squak Mountain
A 2000' mountain just outside the southern borders of Issaquah, Washington. It is the site of Squak Mountain State Park. Like Tiger Mountain next door, it has several peaks and a myriad of trails and trailheads.

Squishy Bell Viewpoint
A 2000 ft prominance above the I-90 corridor east of North Bend. It is almost directy across I-90 from McClellan Butte. It affords great views, both east and west, along the I-90 corridor.

Talapus Lake
Another lake of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area and, in my opinion, one of the most photographic. It can be a stopover on the way to Olallie Lake or, especially in winter, a destination in itself.

Thomas Mountain
A 5200' mountain between Kachess Lake to the west and Cle Elum Lake to the east. It offers an excellent view over Cle Elum Lake, although you have to leave the trail for a short distance. It can be accessed from the Kachess Ridge trailhead.

Thompson Point
A 5000' point on the horseshoe shaped ridge around Gifford Lakes, east of North Bend, Washington. It is situated at the apex of the rounded part of the U-shaped ridge, between Zorro Ridge and Revolution Peak and directly above Thompson Lake.

Tiger Mountain: East Tiger
A 2900' mountain, and the easternmost peak, in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. There are communications towers on the summit but, like most of the peaks of Tiger Mountain, it provides amenities for hikers.

Tiger Mountain: Middle Tiger
A 2600' mountain nearly dead center of the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. Unlike the other peaks in the Tiger Mountain area, there is nothing on Middle Tiger - no views, no benches, barely even a rock to sit on. Like every place else on Tiger though, it can be reached from several trailheads.

Tiger Mountain: Poo Poo Point
Tiger Mountain is a large forest area managed by the DNR. It contains 4 mountains - 1 with 3 - peaks and is honeycombed with trails. Poo Poo Point is a lower elevation point near Issaquah with a paraglider launchpad.

Tiger Mountain: South Tiger
a 2000' mountain, and the southernmost mountain, of the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. The official spot marked as South Tiger actually has nothing on it. It is a peak but due north about .1 mile lies a slightly higher peak that has a small horse camp.

Tiger Mountain: Talus Rock Loop
An interesting place in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area on the northwest side of West Tiger. The trail loops around an area of large talus rock. There are also caves in this area but they have all been closed off. This is often a side-trip but can be a destination for a shorter hike.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 1
A 2900' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the highest of the three peaks of West Tiger. It has communications towers at the top but also has amenities for hikers - including the Hiker's Hut.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 2
A 2700' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the 2nd highest of the three peaks of West Tiger and like West Tiger 1 has communications towers on it. And, like most places in the Tiger Mountain area, there are several ways to get there.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 3
A 2500' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the lowest of the three peaks of West Tiger and the most popular. It offers only a decent view into the Puget Lowlands.

Twin Falls
A state park southeast of North Bend, Washington and the site of a pair of waterfalls on the South Fork Snoqualmie River. They are actually a single tiered horsetail type waterfall. The two upper tiers fall a combined 90 feet and make up the Upper Falls while the 3rd tier falls 135 feet as the Lower Falls.

Twin Lakes: North
One of at two pairs of lakes with the name of Twin Lakes. I therefor refer to this pair as North. They sit alongside the trail to Lake Lillian and would make hike destination themselves.

Twin Lakes: South
The 2nd of a two pairs of lakes with the same name, which is why I refer to this pair as South. They sit alongside the Cold Creek trail and can be accessed several ways, the most direct from Cold Creek trailhead. They're usually a side-trip but could be a shorter hike destination.

Whiskey Dick Wildlife AreaWhi
An area at the east end of Whiskey Dick Mountain just off the Vantage Highway west of Vantage Washington. Herds of elk overwinter here and calve here in the spring.

White Bluffs: North Slope
Light colored sandstone bluffs along the Columbia River across from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. They are located along one of the last sections of untamed river on the Columbia and are accessed near the White Bluffs boatlaunch.

White Bluffs: South Slope
Light colored sandstone bluffs along the Hanford Reach, one of the last untamed sections of the Columbia River across from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

Winter Block Viewpoint
A viewpoint along I-90 below Web Mountain, between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass. It works as either a short hike when time is an issue or a longer hike combines with other destinations.

Wright Mountain
A 5300' mountain near Gem Lake. It offers commanding views of the peaks and lakes around the Snow Lake area, as well as down into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley below.
