Alphabetical list of hikes for 2011-2013

Alaska Lake
A small lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, northeast of Snoqualmie Pass. It sits next to the Pacific Crest trail, except its about 1000 feet below it. It can be accessed through Gold Creek valley.

Ancient Lake
A series of small, water filled potholes created by the same ancient, catastrophic floods from ancient Missoula Lake that created the coulees. It is located in the Potholes Coulee southwest of Quincy in eastern Washington.

Annette Lake
A small mountain lake, nestled between Silver Peak and Humpback Mountain. It's located southwest of Snoqualmie Pass and can be accessed off exit 47 off I-90.

Beacon Ridge
The southernmost part of Kachess Ridge, east of the southern end of Kachess Lake. Its called Beacon Ridge because it was once the site of an aircraft beacon, but all that remains today is the metal framework it sat on.

Blythe & Chukar Lakes
Two of the many small lakes in the Potholes State Park area. They are just south of O'Sullivan Dam and east of Mar Don Resort. With all the water in this area, rattlesnakes are likely to be around in the warmer months.

Boulder Garden
A loop trail in the Mount Si area near North Bend, Washington. It can be accessed from the Little Si trailhead. It makes a great extension to a hike up Little Si.

Cave Ridge
A small ridge just north of Snoqualmie Pass. It sits at the left edge of the pentagon formed by Guye Peak, Snoqualmie Mountain, Lundin Peak, Red Mountain and Kendall Peak. It gets its name from a cave near the summit of the ridge.

Cedar Butte
A small, 1800' hump between Rattlesnake Lake and Mount Washington, just east of North Bend, Washington. Although small, it does offer some good views into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley and the mountains surrounding it.

Change Creek Loop
A loop hike starting from the Mount Washington trail. It then turns off onto the Great Wall trail, then the Change Creek trail, which circles up around Change Creek Pond before heading back down to the Iron Horse trail, then back to the parking lot.

Change Peak
A 4300' peak east of Mount Washington. It sits next to the Great Wall trail but to get to the summit requires bushwhacking through thick stands of hemlock saplings. The summit offers decent views, through the trees, east and south to Mount Rainier.

Dingford Creek
A fast moving creek at the base of Mount Price north of Snoqualmie Pass. It is fed by a number of small mountain lakes and drains into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River. It can be accessed by FR56 in the Middle Fork valley.

Dirty Harry's Peak
A 4600' peak at the east end of West Defiance, east of North Bend, Washington. The trail is rough and steep in places but it makes a good conditioning hike and it offers a good view of the ridge across the Granite Lakes.

Domerie Divide
A ridge skirting the west end of the Domerie Creek valley north of Easton, Washington. It spans from the west flank of Easton Ridge around and up to crest the Domerie Ridge. Its a steep trail but offers outstanding views to the south along the way.

Easton Ridge
A long, 4400' ridge along I-90 just north of Easton, Washington. It is a steep hike to get up to but once you crest the ridge its a fairly easy walk. It offers outstanding views south and north to the Stuart Range. In spring and early summer there is a profusion of wildflowers.

Frenchman Coulee
A small coulee just above the east side of Wanapum Lake on the Columbia River near Vantage, Washington. The old Vantage Highway runs along the south side of the coulee. There is a small waterfall at the east end, the outflow from Hilton Lake above.

Gold Creek
A creek located on Snoqualmie Pass, fed by high lakes on Rampart Ridge to the east and lakes near Chikamin Ridge to the north and draining into Keechelus Lake on the pass. Two of those lakes can be accessed through this creek valley.

Granite Lakes
A pair of lakes just outside of the western edge of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. They are nestled between West Defiance and Webb Mountain. Granite Creek, the outflow from these lakes, drains into the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River.

Granite Mountain
A 5600' mountain along the I-90 corridor, between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass. It offers such a commanding view that it was the site of a fire lookout - which still stands at the summit but is no longer used.

Great Wall
The ridge between Change Peak and Mount Washington, east of North Bend. It is the headwall of the valley between the two. It can done from either direction and makes a nice wide loop hike.

Hall Point
A small viewpoint just off the Change Creek trail, overlooking the Hall Creek valley down to the I-90 corridor. The first couple of miles are fairly steep, as is the last 1/4 mile, but it makes an interesting hike.

Humpback Mountain
A 5100' mountain along the I-90 corridor southwest of Snoqualmie Pass. The trail climbs straight up the northwest ridge without switchbacks to level out the 2400' elevation gain in just over 1-1/4 miles. The reward, however, are spectacular, nearly 360° views.

Kamikaze Falls
A large - but low volume - waterfall on the flank of Mount Teneriffe just east of North Bend, Washington. It is a 3 tier horsetail falls, on Teneriffe Creek, with a total drop of 414 feet. It has also recently been called Teneriffe Falls.

Little Si
A small 1500' hump near Mount Si, just outside of North Bend, Washington. Its a popular place for climbers as there are sheer rock faces on its flank. It is also popular with local hikers and dog walkers.

Little St Helens
A small 4500' ridge along I-90 between Gardner Mountain and Humpback Mountain near Snoqualmie Pass. It can be accessed from the Hanson Creek trailhead.

Mason Lake
A mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, a short distance off the I-90 corridor, nestled between Bandera Mountain and Mount Defiance. It can be accessed from the Ira Spring trailhead, between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

McClellan Butte
A rocky 5100' prominence just off the I-90 corridor between North Bend, Washington and Snoqualmie Pass. The hike up can be challenging but the last 100 feet of elevation is a Class 3 scramble requiring the use of hands and feet.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River: Downstream
A hike from the Middle Fork trailhead heading downstream. The trail goes about 3-1/4 miles down river before turning onto the Pratt River trail.

Middle Fork Snoqualmie River: Upstream
A hike from the Middle Fork trailhead heading upstream. The trail runs about 14 miles up river, past the GoldMyer Hot Springs, before connecting to the Dutch Miller Gap trail.

MidMountain
A 4200' peak across Change Creek valley from Change Peak, east of North Bend, Washington. It can be accessed either by the Change Creek trail or the Mount Washington-Great Wall trails. Views from the summit are mostly over the I-90 corridor.

Island Lakes
A group of small lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area, located below Bandera and Pratt Mountains. They are comprised of Island Lake - the largest, Rainbow Lake - the nicest and Blazer Lake - which has no trail for access, as far as I know.

Mirror Lake
A small mountain lake west of Keechelus Lake near Snoqualmie Pass. It sits alongside the Pacific Crest trail and can be accessed from several trailheads.

Mount Baldy
A 5000' mountain north of Easton, Washington and Easton Ridge. Its situated just west of Domerie Peak and is part of the same ridge system. There are a couple of ways to access it but the most direct is from the Kachess Ridge trailhead near Kachess Lake.

Mount Si
A seemingly large 4100' mountain rising up from the Snoqualmie River valley just outside of North Bend, Washington. Although there is a new, well groomed trail to the summit, I usually take the old trail because there is less traffic. The true summit here is also a Class 3 scramble.

Mount Washington
A 4400' mountain just east of North Bend, Washington and just north of Chester Morse Lake - part of the Cedar River Watershed. The trail starts off the Iron Horse trail, just outside Olallie State Park. It offers great views north from the summit and south just before the summit.

Mt Washington: Washington Pond
A pond in the valley between Change Peak and Mount Washington. It makes a good destination when time constraints or weather conditions don't allow for a longer hike.

Northrup Canyon: Northrup Lake
A small, water-filled pothole at the end of Northrup Canyon, near Steamboat Rock State Park. Its accessed by hiking through the canyon past the old Northrup Homestead.

Northrup Canyon: Old Wagon Road
A short trail, about a mile long, heading up over the south side of the canyon. At one time it was the main road between Almira and Bridgeport. It is closed from the end of November through March.

Olallie Lake
Another small mountain lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. It can be accessed a few different ways - the most direct from the Talapus Lake trailhead between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

Olallie Lake Viewpoint
A place on the Pratt Lake trail overlooking Olallie Lake. Its usually a popular destination for snowshoers in winter. The view is generally better in winter also as its not as overgrown.

Pratt Lake
Another one of the many, many lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area. Access can be gained in several ways, the most obvious from the Pratt Lake trailhead, just off I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass.

Putrid Pete's Peak or P3
A 5200' peak between Web Mountain and Bandera Mountain southeast of North Bend, Washington. It is a steep, rough trail and can be accessed from the Ira Spring trailhead.

Rattlesnake Mountain: East Peak
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. The east peak has communication towers on it but it also offers great views down the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley. It can be accessed from either end but the east end is more direct.

Rattlesnake Mountain: Grand Prospect
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. Grand Prospect is a viewpoint about 4 miles from the west end of the ridge. The trail runs from end to end making a through hike possible.

Rattlesnake Mountain: Windy Landing
A long ridge along I-90, across from North Bend, Washington. Windy Landing is a viewpoint about 1/4 mile west of the east peak. It gives decent views of Mount Si and the Snoqualmie River valley.

Silver Peak
A 5600' peak between Mount Catherine and Abiel Peak west of Keechelus Lake on Snoqualmie Pass. It offers outstanding 360° views. The trail off, the Pacfic Crest trail, is unmaintained and is rough and steep in places.

South Bessemer Mountain
A 5000' mountain between Mount Teneriffe and Quartz Mountain along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River near North Bend. It offers great views of the surrounding area. The trail is a series of old logging roads.

Squak Mountain
A 2000' mountain just outside the southern borders of Issaquah, Washington. It is the site of Squak Mountain State Park. Like Tiger Mountain next door, it has several peaks and a myriad of trails and trailheads.

Talapus Lake
Another lake of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area and, in my opinion, one of the most photographic. It can be a stopover on the way to Olallie Lake or, especially in winter, a destination in itself.

Thomas Mountain
A 5200' mountain between Kachess Lake to the west and Cle Elum Lake to the east. It offers an excellent view over Cle Elum Lake, although you have to leave the trail for a short distance. It can be accessed from the Kachess Ridge trailhead.

Tiger Mountain: Middle Tiger
A 2600' mountain nearly dead center of the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. Unlike the other peaks in the Tiger Mountain area, there is nothing on Middle Tiger - no views, no benches, barely even a rock to sit on. Like every place else on Tiger though, it can be reached from several trailheads.

Tiger Mountain: South Tiger
a 2000' mountain, and the southernmost mountain, of the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. The official spot marked as South Tiger actually has nothing on it. It is a peak but due north about .1 mile lies a slightly higher peak that has a small horse camp.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 1
A 2900' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the highest of the three peaks of West Tiger. It has communications towers at the top but also has amenities for hikers - including the Hiker's Hut.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 2
A 2700' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the 2nd highest of the three peaks of West Tiger and like West Tiger 1 has communications towers on it. And, like most places in the Tiger Mountain area, there are several ways to get there.

Tiger Mountain: West Tiger 3
A 2500' mountain peak of the westmost mountain in the Tiger Mountain State Forest area. It is the lowest of the three peaks of West Tiger and the most popular. It offers only a decent view into the Puget Lowlands.

Whiskey Dick Wildlife AreaWhi
An area at the east end of Whiskey Dick Mountain just off the Vantage Highway west of Vantage Washington. Herds of elk overwinter here and calve here in the spring.

White Bluffs: North Slope
Light colored sandstone bluffs along the Columbia River across from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. They are located along one of the last sections of untamed river on the Columbia and are accessed near the White Bluffs boatlaunch.
